Yes, that is right. Pinterest has finally dropped its “invite-only” system and opened itself to new users.

Pinterest in their official blog post said:

For those of you who haven’t joined Pinterest yet, this means you can sign up without waiting for an invite: all you have to do is go to Pinterest.com to get started. In addition to using your Facebook or Twitter login, we’re also opening registration so you can sign up with just your email address.

We’re really excited to have the capacity to offer Pinterest to more people and if you’re a Pinner with friends who’ve been waiting on the sidelines, we hope you’ll let them know. Happy pinning to everyone!

Not that getting an invite on Pinterest was difficult, but this exit from beta has certainly raised a lot many questions:

Firstly, how much will Pinterest grow in this “open to all” format? How many actually want to acquire it? Will it get to the level of Facebook or Twitter (in terms of acquiring it by users)?

Secondly, will Pinterest be able to maintain its exclusivity?

Thirdly, with registrations open to everyone, it will be iteresting to see, what will happen to the quality (read: Spamming)?

Lastly, will Pinterest scale steadily? Growing in the social network is not always easy. And it certainly has its own hurdles.

Till now, Pinterest was an invite-only beta, this move will not only open its channel for more growth but also make it more popular with audience. It has also attracted traffic from various brands and retailers. It will be intersting to see how brands behave to this with regards to investing.

Simply Measured, in a study showed that, almost 51% of top 100 global brands have Pinterest account.

If this step proves to be successful, then there is no stopping for Pinterest to climb the ladder a step higher. What do you feel about it? Do let us know.
